Prototype Cards & First Oracle

Over the weekend, I decided to print the current set and give the cards a try.

I originally made the cards in square format, but decided to change them to regulars 2.5x3.5 inch so it would be easy to glue on a good old playing card.

Making the card took some time, but it felt good to shuffle them and browse them. The rectangular size also emphasis the double meaning of each card.

And finally, I took some time to revisit an old Vaults of Vaarn game that I had forgotten about. My character Herman is a scientist who searches for hypergeometric truths and is constantly let down, unable to find evidence of his research. After coming out empty-handed of yet another expedition - the copper obelisk turned out to just bet a fancy paperweight - I asked myself how Herman felt and picked 2 cards.

Faith & Flame.

Notice the 2 bottom words as well : Burn & Work.

So much room for interpretation! Faith is evident, Herman should keep up the search. (Faith is what keeps up looking for things that are impossible/magical) Is Flame about his passion? Or should he look for a literal flame?

On the other hand, the reversed meaning is Burn & Work! I gotta say, I’m tempted to let myself go in this direction! Should I go back to my humble lab and burn everything?

Anyway, this story if for another time.

This week I’m going to try to get some colour samples printed and see how that looks.
